“If we can imagine something, there is a good chance that it will happen. If we don’t imagine it, there is almost no chance of it happening.”
~ Muhammed Yunus
The Word Asha Signifies Hope!
At Deliver Asha, we’re passionate about helping break the cycle of intergenerational poverty and creating a brighter future by closing the opportunity gap.
Intergenerational poverty remains a major obstacle to achieving one’s full potential. Sadly, this is especially prevalent in many underserved communities despite several decades of well-meaning interventions.
The website outlines the factors that lead to intergenerational poverty and presents a comprehensive strategy tailored to help young residents overcome obstacles and achieve meaningful, fulfilling lives aligned with their personal goals and aspirations.
We believe that effectively breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty will require coordinated efforts from community and business leaders, middle and high school educators, and leaders of public and private service organizations.
The Deliver Asha team is committed to working closely with community stakeholders and anyone interested in supporting efforts to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty in underserved communities.
We know that the causes are complex, and at the individual level, issues are often layered. It is quite possible that we have not incorporated proven approaches into our strategy that you believe could be incrementally helpful in achieving our mission.
We are grateful for your interest in understanding the challenges young residents in underserved communities face every day. Your feedback on our approach is not only encouraged but also welcome!
The Issue => Intergenerational Poverty
Factors that contribute to the ongoing intergenerational cycle of poverty, particularly in underserved communities, can be grouped into three main categories.
-
Household heads find it challenging to allocate quality time for bonding and modeling values to their children.
-
Household members frequently experience heightened stress because of financial insecurity, physical abuse, food scarcity, or domestic violence, among other factors.
-
Our public education system struggles to adapt and deliver personalized learning experiences for at-risk youth facing various challenges.
-
High school programs often lack classes that focus on key skills such as time management, decision-making, financial literacy, and relationship-building.
-
Young adults frequently face limited job options in their communities. This restricts their chances of achieving financial footing and hampers the development of essential skills such as teamwork and conflict resolution.
-
Limited financial resources and inadequate community infrastructure impede efforts to attract capital investments and skilled professionals.
Any combination of these obstacles can often leave young people unprepared to participate as contributing adult members of their communities. Unfortunately, studies show that this situation often leads to another generation trapped in a cycle of poverty.
Our Mission
What is our purpose…
Our Mission
End the cycle of intergenerational poverty by bridging the opportunity gap in underserved communities.
Our Vision
What we aim to achieve…
Our Vision
Spark a virtuous cycle of intergenerational prosperity and well-being in underserved communities.
Our Strategy
How we intend to accomplish our mission…
Our goal is to thoughtfully create successful outcomes for those we serve in underserved communities, recognizing that each transformed life can inspire a virtuous cycle of positive, long-term ripple effects.
Societal norms often push us to seek quick fixes; however, when addressing deeply rooted, complex problems like those faced by youth and young adults in underserved communities, short-term interventions are merely temporary solutions. Workshops or seasonal programs provide valuable information, but they seldom lead to lasting changes in individual behavior or improvements in the community’s overall quality of life.
We believe that authentic resilience and integrity, to become habitual and instinctive in individuals, requires ongoing, persistent effort along with lasting, organic structural change in the community.
Deliver Asha’s strategy to combat intergenerational poverty emphasizes empowering at-risk teens and young adults to develop positive habits and foster economic growth in underserved communities.
Pursuing both objectives in parallel can effectively narrow the opportunity gap in underserved communities and lay the groundwork for future generations of young people to build solid foundations within their communities.
Founder’s Two Cents
Deliver Asha’s purpose, vision, mission, operating model, and initiatives are specifically designed to address systemic intergenerational poverty in underserved communities, rather than tackling poverty broadly.
Our operating model is intended to serve as a prototype for a practical, long-term strategy to help break the cycle of systemic intergenerational poverty. It is informed by insights from my personal life journey, professional experiences, and research into extraordinary organizations and individuals who have made a meaningful impact in alleviating systemic poverty.
With a genuine commitment to earning the trust of every person in underserved communities and delivering on our support initiatives, I’m confident we can bridge the opportunity gap and drive real economic growth in these neighborhoods. By working together, we can make a lasting, meaningful difference.
The true measure of our success will be clear when our alumni mentees become inspiring role models for future generations. We believe our approach can build strong momentum, creating a positive ripple effect that helps break the cycle of intergenerational poverty, especially in underserved communities.
I’d love for you to join us on this journey and share your thoughts on our strategy. Please don’t hesitate to share any blind spots in our approach that you notice. Thank you so much!
